How it works
How to Count the Duration Between Two Dates
Start on the earlier date and count forward in whole years, then whole months, and finally the days left over. That gives the familiar “2 years, 3 months and 10 days” form used for ages, tenancies and service records.
Calendar months vary from 28 to 31 days, so the same number of days can be a different number of months depending on where you start. For example, 30 days from January 15 is February 14, which is less than a month, but 30 days from April 1 is May 1, exactly one month.
For totals, the calculator converts the full span into days first and then multiplies out: 24 hours per day, 1,440 minutes and 86,400 seconds.
